Senior Capstone Collection: Plant Life Explored in American Raku
Foundations Gallery, Baird Hall, Rogers State University April 25-May 12
This body of work was created for Senior Capstone as the culmination of my BFA experience at Rogers State University. In this collection of American-style raku-fired ceramic pieces, I explore, suggest, or otherwise represent plant life. Some works feature designs inspired by plant cellular structures. Others are sculptural representations of plants or plant parts. On some pieces, plant materials were impressed into the clay to create texture or to form various compositions. Lastly, some pieces were treated much like a canvas, where I applied glazes in a manner similar to painting to represent plants or landscapes.
Because raku pieces remain porous, they are not food safe, and are for decorative purposes only.
